At the Advisors Group, investment management is a relationship and a process—not a product. This relationship begins with an in-depth analysis that assists us in evaluating your financial goals and attitudes. It helps us identify your priorities concerning:
your objectives, needs and resources your income preferences before and after retirement your level of comfort with financial risk how your portfolio fits into your "big picture" the rate of return you'll need to achieve your goals
This risk tolerance analysis enables us to be more precise about matching your investments to your objectives. We believe that being comfortable with the risk level of your portfolio is just as important as striving for above average returns.
Once we know you better, we will present you with an investment strategy that is structured to help meet your unique needs and objectives. We do this with a process called "Asset Allocation". This process is based on numerous academic studies which have proven that the actual mixture of your assets will have much more of an effect on total return than the individual securities themselves.
Our Asset Allocation process focuses heavily on understanding how asset classes or investment styles move in relation to each other—a statistical measure called correlation. We believe that by adding non-correlated classes to your portfolio you can lower volatility as well as enhance returns.
The Advisors Group, through our relationship with our broker dealer, LPL Financial, offers no proprietary investments. All of our investment strategies are implemented using unbiased research and third party money managers that have passed a rigorous due diligence process. Managers are monitored on an ongoing basis and can be replaced for reasons such as: underperformance, portfolio manager change, change in investment style or objective or because a better investment option has become available.
An Investment Policy Statement (IPS) shouldn't only be for the institutional investor or the "ultra-high" net worth individual, which is why we draft IPS's for most of our fee-based clients. An IPS is a document that outlines our agreed upon investment strategy in writing and commits to a disciplined investment plan. It acts as a "blueprint" and a "report card" for your portfolio.
You will receive monthly statements from our broker dealer, LPL Financial. Advisory accounts will also receive a detailed Quarterly Performance Report, which lets you know how your portfolio has performed net of fees and expenses over different time periods and from inception. Certain benchmark indices are also listed for general comparison purposes. Up to date and individualized reports can be created from our office for our regularly scheduled investment review meetings or at your request. Meanwhile, you are always welcome to call The Advisors Group at no additional charge to answer questions.
